About the Event
Waldorf Schools worldwide are getting ready to celebrate Michaelmas, a festival that has roots in Medieval Europe harvest traditions. This special feast honors the archangel Michael, a figure cherished in Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. Michael stands for the triumph of good over evil and the bravery needed to face our fears. His story resonates with everyone because we all encounter challenges in life, both within ourselves and from the world around us. This celebration in the Waldorf tradition is a wonderful reminder of this universal truth, encouraging us to find the courage and strength to overcome hardships.
Michaelmas falls around the Equinox, marking the end of Summer and the beginning of Autumn in the Northern Hemisphere. While the weather might still be warm, we’re starting to notice the days getting shorter, a sign that it’s time to turn inward and gather our strength for the darker months ahead. At WSMC, we welcome the new season with a Michaelmas celebration that features an all-school play. Each year, students take on roles that are passed down from grade to grade, making this a memorable rite of passage. It’s a wonderful way to connect with our school community and celebrate the traditions that grow with our students as they move through their years here.
We welcome all to join us for the Michaelmas pageant. Please RSVP! Sign-up sheets for volunteers will be posted outside the office for Grades, and at the bulletin boards outside of early childhood classrooms. We will need signups for fruit, soup, bread, butter, set-up, and clean-up.
Please label soup: list ingredients such as meat, shellfish, nuts, dairy, eggs, gluten, etc. As a reminder, we are a peanut and hazelnut-free campus.
After the pageant, we will gather on the field for the blessing. When the blessing is over, pick your child up from their teacher. Your child will shake their teacher's hand goodbye and at that point they are under your supervision. Please help children follow the school rules (example: shoes on).
If an adult caregiver cannot attend the festival with your child, please let your teacher know before the event.
Please be mindful of our neighbors: do not block driveways and please do not park in front of or alongside the Post Office.
